It was with great sadness that we heard that Reg Davis had died in July 2026 at the age of 87. Reg was one of the earliest members of the Friends of the Aldershot Military Museum, was always active in his support, and served on the committee as Membership Secretary. Reg will be remembered for his enthusiasm and interest in military history and heritage, and above all for his sense of humour which saw the funny side in any situation.
Reg was born in London just before the start of the Second World War. He worked in the motor trade and in banking, then in later life he worked for the Airborne Forces charity, a role which gave him particular satisfaction. In addition to FAMM, Reg was an active member of the British Model Soldier Society and played a prominent role in the Aldershot Branch, supporting branch meetings, displays and shows.
Interest in traditional military music saw him in the Corps of Drums Society and he played the side drum in the Fleet and District Corps of Drums, and older members may remember him performing in this role at our ‘Guns and Drums’ events. Always a joiner, Reg was also in the British Flat Figure Society and the Waterloo Association, among many other groups.
Reg was always good company and enjoyed nothing more than being with a group of friends swapping stories and talking about shared interests. We extend sincere sympathies to his wife Maggie, children Andy and Nicky, and all his family in their loss.
